Step by step instructions

Step One:  Dissolve the Damar resin with turpentine by heating it until it thickens. You can do this in a double boiler or on the stove top. Do not overheat the turpentine! It should not boil.

Step Two:  Pour the mixture into a container and seal the lid. You can seal the lid with tape or plastic wrap to keep it from evaporating.

Step Three:  Leave the Damar gum resin mixture to infuse in a cool, dark place for a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours, and two weeks for best results.

Step Four:  Strain the mixture through a filter cloth and add it to your paint. If you desire, you can use coffee filters or muslin cloths for straining out the resin. You can also use fine sieves for this purpose if you have them on hand or prefer using them instead of coffee filters or muslin cloths. Just remember to strain out all materials before adding the infused mixture to any kind of paint to your project.

Step Five:  Add the infused Damar gum resin mixture to your paint. It is recommended to add the Damar gum resin mixture to your paint at a ratio of five parts Damar resin mixture for each one hundred parts of paint. In other words, only five percent of your paint should contain the infused mixture. And most importantly, consult a professional before beginning your project.

Conclusion

Damar resin will add a lovely sheen to your paint and it preserve your art work. But you have to be careful about how much Damar mixture you add because it dries hard. Adding too much could make your paint dry too quickly, which can result in cracking or flaking later on down the line.
